Freedom
of Information Act -- 1975 amendments to the 1966 Freedom
of Information Act and the Privacy Act of 1974 provided for broad
access to FBI records.
Department
of Justice Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requires to disclosure
of records requested, in writing, by any person. Agencies may
withhold information pursuant to nine exemptions and three exclusions
in the statute. The FOIA applies only to federal agencies and
does not create a right of access to records held by Congress,
the courts, or by state or local government agencies records.
